For centuries, mountain huts have sheltered backcountry travelers, skiers and mountaineers the world over. In Europe, hundreds of huts hang from mountainsides and mountain huts are an established tradition in Canada and the northeast United States.
Founded in 2012, High Sierra Snowcat provides a traditional overnight backcountry experience with the convenience of arriving via snowcat, so you can spend more time doing what you came to do: skiing or riding in the backcountry, instead of spending an entire day getting there.
High Sierra Snowcat is owned and operated by passionate, experienced backcountry skiers. We developed the snowcat and yurt concept here on the East Side of the Sierra to provide a safe and affordable overnight backcountry experience in some of the wildest terrain left in California.
Our mission is to provide an alternative to the traditional ski resort by providing backcountry enthusiasts access to remote skiing, over-night backcountry accommodations, guiding, safe transportation, and exceptional service without the lift lines, tracked up slopes and costs of most resorts.
We operate under a special use permit issued by Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest.
